Thursday 26 May 2016 – day of photography with 2nd year ceramics students from Cardiff School of Art and Design
Back in September 2015 a group of 20 students from Cardiff School of Art and Design visited the Collection with their tutors, Natasha Mayo, Peter Castle and Duncan Ayscough. The students each chose a piece or two from the Collection and then set out on a project to make their own work in response to it. On Thursday 26 May the students piled off the bus with their finished pieces and displayed them around the Design Study Centre. The work was tremendous. It was clear that the students had really engaged with the project and put so much thought, creativity and skill into the work. The culmination of the project saw photographer Toril Brancher joining the students to photograph each new work together with its catalyst piece(s) in situ around the Design Study Centre. Toril has an instinct for finding and capturing the essence of an artwork, and as well as providing the students with stunning images of their work, was generous with her thoughts on how she approaches an artwork. The work was packed up again, placed back on the bus and driven back to Cardiff to be included in the end of year show in Cardiff which starts on Thursday 2 June.
