About
Dan Arbeid was one of its key figures at the Central School of Art in the 1960s where a fresh sculptural approach emerged focused on an expressionist exploration of clay as a medium. Arbeid’s pin pots have become archetypes, clay wrapped round a rolling pin, allowed to sag, bulge and crack as the moment dictated. The pitted glaze adds to this the transformative effect of firing. The influence of these experiments on studio ceramics was far-reaching over the following decades.
