About
This coffee pot design is one perfected by Cardew at the Winchcombe Pottery in Gloucestershire in the 1930s combining an elegant prehistoric Cretan spout with a traditional Devon jug shape. The decoration, incised through the glaze, occurs on the earlier pieces but by the 50s had evolved as Cardew absorbed ideas from African pottery. This is a version of a pattern known as the Vumé lily named after the earlier Vumé Pottery in Ghana.
