Sam Herman was one of the pioneers of the Hot Glass movement of the late 1960s and remains one of the glass world’s most influential figures.
He sought to raise the status of glassmaking to a pure artform, creating freeform pieces that were untrammelled by conventional notions of good taste. This is one of Herman’s early works. The irregular form and randomly trailed decoration show his interest in the plasticity of glass in its liquid state.
